Auxiliary cables were added to the telescope during the gregorian upgrade (1992-1996). twelve cables in all were added:

    Picture were taken of the cables were they enter the socket. Some of these have tape measures attached to check for slippage.

 there are 9 rings with a total of 217 wires. By ring the wire count is:
  • ring 1 (outer) 48 wires
  • ring 2 42 wires
  • ring 3 36 wires
  • ring 4 30 wires
  • ring 5 24 wires
  • ring 6 18 wires
  • ring 7 12 wires
    • Between ring 7 and ring 8 are 6 smaller wires (<.5diam) that look like they are filling a space gap.
  • ring 8   6 wires
  • ring 9 center  1 wire

The cable diameter is 3.25 inches.
The cable radius is spanned by 8.5 wire diameters
WireDiameter: 3.25/2/8.5 = .191" or 4.86 mm

Need to check which diameter cable this is.
