RFI Suggestions

If your Observation is hampered by RFI, you could do the following:

Charactize the RFI - determine its frequency, bandwidth, nature of emission (CW, burst, radar, etc).
Do you see it on the Hill-top monitoring plots ? See either the print-outs in the control room or the On-line display using ARTS rfi, or ANALYZ. You may take a look at the anual statistics to see if this was ever seen by the Monitoring system.
Look in our gripe data base to see if this was ever reported by other observers.
Run a program called "search" to find if your RFI could be harmonically related to any FCC registered spectrum user in PR. Click the appropriate button in ARTS rfi, or simply run: ~rfiusr/search on the observatory's SUN network system.
If this search finds a possible installations that could be causing the RFI, you may use the FARS data base on the PC in Rey Velez'z office to get the name, telepones number etc. Please pass any such info to the RFI group via the Complaint/report form.
If you suspect that it is generated locally, you may use the hand-held radio AR8000 to identify the equipment. A short one-page manual for how to use the AR8000 is avaialble from the telescope operator.
