2bit pfs cals show high Tsys

11feb20

 Intro

   pfs data taken 11feb20 with cals at the end of the 70 second observation showed large Tsys values. The setup was;

Total power histograms of sampled and simulated data.

Total power histograms were computed and the gaussian were fit to them. For this to work we had to smooth/decimate the total power sampled by 10000 (to get a Gaussian  distribution.

There are 3 sets of histograms/fits:

14feb20 Checking compression levels in the if2 setup

On 14feb20 we looked to see if there was compression in the normal sband radar pfs 20Mhz setup.

The 260Mhz amplifiers were first  checked for their 1db compression levels (more info)

The sbn receiver was setup and the power levels were adjusted to give the standard histogram for the pfs. The resulting values were:

260Amp settings
AmpSw, attnSw
Measured pwr
dbm
1db compression level
dbm
leftAmp
10, 10db
10.2
23
rightAmp
0, 1db
8.8
17

The left amp was well below any compression. the right amp could have had up to .1db of compression.

We then did a tsys using the output of the 260Mhz amps (and the square log detectors). This can be compared with the tsys values measured with
the standard tsysall measurement done later in the day:
