Intro

The hf campaign ran 02jun16 thru 08 jun16. it used the 5 Mhz system. The 430 Mhz transmitter was used as a diagnostic (in single and dual beam modes).

AO recorded ion line, plasma line using:

radar interface recorded standard ion line
echotek recorded 2 5MHz bands centered at -5.5, + 5.5 Mhz
the usrp was used to record 25 Mhz bands
the lidar lab and optical lab also recorded data during the run

Transmitted power: (top)

The transmitted power was measured for each hf transmitter. The setup was:

rf output coupler from each tx goes to rf multiplexor (hanging in front of blue cabinet in hf ctrl room)
output of multiplexor to anritsu spectrum analyzer.
anritsu setup:

0.. 20 Mhz, rbw 300 khz,
minhold, maxhold, avg 6 seconds

the anacom program controls the anritsu and the hfswitch

6 secs each tx, then move to next..
data stored in /share/phildat/hf/yymmdd

Plots were made for each experiment session (see table above).

The power from all 6 tx were summed.
the 3 colors are sums of: maxhold, minhold, and average.

If the experiment toggled the tx power on/off, then the 6 sec average on the spectrum analyze will be less than the peak transmitted powere.

We added the 25 Hz cal as a trigger for the sweep generator

normal setup was 25khz bw, 39ms sweep, then 40 ms trigger would restart the sweep.

23:11 - start. auto toggle 1sec on, 2 sec off
23:44 - found that 430tx power was still being split ch, dome (even though dome waveguide shorted since not connected).

The power was also low
switched all power to ch.
raised 430tx power. at 1Mwatt had trouble at end of ipp. lowered power to around 800Kw.

23:55 -added 2more db atten to daeron rf signal.. enhanced plasma line was clipping.
00:00 (160607): stopped cycling hf. cw transmission for satellite pass.
00:29 trouble with arcing. reduced hf drive .8 db.
00:34 turned off hf rf for a few secs to see if arcing stopped..arcing still there
00:36 set tx4 to min value (-60dbm drive), then back to regular. arcing stopped.

Turned out the trouble was the spectrum analyzer.

some az,za gave less arcing than others.
az=285, zach=0,zagr=10 .. little arcing started here
az=168, zagr=1.06, azch=8.5 lots of arcing. moved to here

Never got over 500 KWatts.
The baluns don't like 60Khz bw at 5.1 Mhz.. caused top of balun to overheat, arced. need to be replaced.
The hfsynth program has some bugs/features..

if you are toggling the rf output and then you abort (without stopping the toggling), on hfsynth restart, toggling will continue.. even thought the gui output shows that it is not toggling ..

looks like the state is saved and then restored on startup, but the gui output params don't reflect what was loaded at startup (at least not the toggling).

ch (echotek) timestamps 160602 -> 160603

the scramnet fiber optic connector going into the observer computer was damaged at the start of the run.
because of this, the echoteck ch data taken: 18:00 02jun16 -> 08:00 03jun16 had no timestamps or telescope positions.
This affected the carriage house data for:

160602 t2881 brett isham
160602 t2689 min-chang lee
160603 t2869 suman ganguly

I used the file last written time stamps, and the time difference between files to estimate the 10 second integration times.

I updated the .hdr files for the decoded spectra (I did not change the raw echotek .shs files.. they still have no time stamps).
new movies were then made.
the generated time stamps are probably accurate to 5 to 20 secs.
