History

• 180430:  IF cables going into puppi were found to be very loose. they were tightened. should fix 180430 large ripple.
  
• 180421:  large 7.8 MHz ripple seen in puppi polA data.
  
• found polA and polB IF cable connectors loose where they plug into puppi. Both sma connectors were tightened.
  
• We checked the other side of the cables.. they were both tight.
• 180403-5 hsa/frb run. attenuators may have been added to puppi IF cables (at puppi side). May have been when the cables were loosened.

Measurements (in date order):

• 23jun20: aerostat lbw compression, spikes all across puppi band.
• 30apr18: p3054 standing wave in polA gone, polB comb still present.. cband data.
  
• 21apr18: p3054 rfifind saturates when data taking in coherent search mode.
  
• 21mar18: p3058 puppi saturation from lband radars.
• 13feb18: puppi/vlbi test
  
• 27sep16: puppi baseband mode running at 213 Mhz.
  
• 09sep16: running puppi on the 327 receiver with vlbi. baseband sampling.
  
• 26jun13: P2717 327 incoherent search with puppi show avg spectra, rms, and rfi.
  
• 14jan13: simulate a/d amplitude errors.
  
• 10sep12: debugging 32 chan, 200Mhz, raw mode
  
• 14feb 12: first light testing with lband.   puppi saturated by radar rfi..

Notes on some of the puppi cima parameters:

sampling time,acc_len

• user requested value on the left. Value  used  (after checking) on the right)
  
• For coherent/incoherent search, fast4k ,incoherent fold:
  
• chanbwratio= numberOfFreqChannels/bwMhz
• This is the  time needed in usecs to get enough points for 1 fft.
  
• If the chanBwRatio is 1 (800chan,800Mhz) then it takes 1 usec to get enough points for an fft.
  
• acc_len. this is the number of ffts that will be accumulated by puppi before outputting a spectra.
  
• for 800 Mhz, the minimum value is 16.. you must integrate at least 16 ffts .
  
• for others bw's the minimum value is 4.
  
• sampling time:
• How long the user wants to integrate a spectra.
• If must long enough to have at least the min_acc_len
• minSampleTime= chanBwRatio(ffttime)*min_acc_len.
• maxSampleTime= chanBwRatio(fffttime)*1000.   max of 1000 fft integrations
• After checking that the user request fits within ht min,max sample times:
• acc_len =sampleTime/tm1fft
• acc_len is then used by puppi for the integration time..

Puppi mixer

    The puppi mixer was added so that we could map our 1-2 Ghz IF band to the 800 --1600 2nd  nyquist zone of puppi input
Dana built  the mixer as an up down converter:

• 1.1 - 1.9 Ghz -> 5.9 -5.1 Ghz -> .8 - 1.6 Ghz -> puppi
