I joined the observatory staff in October 1998. After graduating
from Cardiff University
(1987-1990) I was based at Jodrell Bank
(1990-1995) and the MPIfR, Bonn
(1995-1998). My research is principally concerned with the search
for radio pulsars in the disk of our Galaxy and its globular cluster system.
This work is carried out with a number of collaborators
and uses some of the classic
radio telescopes around the world.
Of particular interest
are those pulsars in binary systems where the orbiting companion is
a white dwarf, a main sequence star, another neutron star,
and (perhaps soon!) a stellar
mass black hole. For an introduction to this field, see
this
review article.
I maintain the Arecibo Pulsar
Pages which includes a
database
of pulse profiles.
My PhD thesis (1994) is available as well as
a collection of images and
a whole bunch of other stuff! Material I use
for talks is being gathered here.
I've been known to do the odd ridiculous dance in my spare time.
