08.19.PM14:45-16:15 12:12-13:42 Lots of things go wrong. Array rotation not possible, headers incomplete, but first photons fall on a1946.
08.20.PP 02:45-05:15 00:14-02:44 Problems with CIMA and internal AO network. Cannot rotate feed, and off-meridian observing not possible. Finally get started and take some short drifts.
08.21.PP 02:45-05:15 00:18-02:48 We can rotate ALFA, fire cal., etc. There are still parameters missing from the header and the on-line display does not work. We run a 10 min drift at Az=200, Rot=20 and then a long one, crossing the same spot at DecJ=+27d23', Az=180, Rot=19d. A quick look at bandpass subtraction for the 10min scan shows pretty flat baselines!
Data should be ok except: file:0002.fits terminated and new one started within scan; apparently some max size exceeded.
08.21.PM 15:00-17:00 12:35-14:35 More progress. Running Xscans to test offset beam positions at various ALFA_ANG.
We see galaxies in last night's maps!
However, inspection of the data afterwards reveal beam/pol id problems and cross scans are all suspect.
08.22.PP 02:30-05:00 00:06-02:37 Changes have been made but positions still uncertain so we run drifts across known HI targets from EGG digital archive. We confirm beam/pol id's as now reported. And we see galaxies!
08.22.PM 15:00-16:30 12:39-14:09 Xscans not working. Doing 600 sec drifts across NVSS sources at Az=180, RotAng=19d, offsetting to put sources in different beams. They aren't in the right place! Que pasa? We work through dinner....
08.22.GC 21:15-23:15 18:55-20:55 More chart recorder mode: drift across NVSS sources, Az=180., RotAng=19, with offsets. Drift scans have their advantages....
08.23.PP 02:30-05:00 00:11-02:41 Series of 600sec drifts at DecJ=+27 23, RotAngl=19. The beam layout is now clear; Xscans don't work.
08.23.AM 05:00-08:00         -05:41 Continuation of same, across AC and on through sunrise (we're tired...)
08.23.GC 21:15-23:15 18:59-20:59 Try cal firing on top of data stream. 900 sec drifts, cal fired every 175 sec. Drift at +27d07m54
We have lost one pol of Beam0.
08.24.PP 02:30-05:00 00:15-02:45 Drift at +27d07m54
08.24.AM 05:00-08:00           -05:45 Continuation through sunrise.
08.25.PP 02:30-05:00 00:18-02:48 Drift at +27d22m30
08.25.AM 05:00-08:00           -05:49 Continuation on through sunrise
08.25.PM 15:00-16:15 12:50-14:05 Time spent on CIMA tests. Phil and Ganesh have verified the beam layout in the dome.
08.26.PP 02:15-04:45 00:07-02:38 Drift at +27d37m06
08.26.PM 15:00-16:15 12:54-14:10 Used this time to test cal firing duration. No science data.
08.27.PM 15:00-16:15 12:58-14:13 Used most of this time to explore further the ramp time and duration of the cal. Did one drift at +27d37m06 with cal duration 2 secs.
08.28.PP 02:15-04:45 00:15-02:45 Drift at +27d51m42: using a cal duration of 2 secs, every 175 secs.
08.28.PM 15:00-16:15 13:02-14:17 Reset ALFA power on the platform + some power level problems... a bit of science data at the end.
08.29.PP 02:15-06:30 00:19-02:49 Adopted a calibration scheme of 2 sec cals every 275 secs... this way from now on unless otherwise stated. Drifts at +26d53m18. Almost 4 hours of science data! Start completing 2 square degrees of tile 26 with this setup.
09.01.PM 15:00-16:15 13:18-14:33 Some problems during telescope maintenance and misconfigured WAPPs... no science data.
