My research interests center on the study of the variability of the radio continuum of extragalactic radio sources. At low radio frequencies ( < 1 GHz) this is related to propagation effects and source structure. Monitoring of sources with Arecibo and low frequency VLBI measurements will serve to constrain the different theoretical possibilities.

I am also involved in a project to map the galaxy distribution behind the anticenter region of the galactic plane. Here, optical surveys are combined with targeted HI observations to obtain identifications and redshifts of galaxy candidates. This work constitutes the subject of the Phd. thesis of Carmen Pantoja.

As project director for the Arecibo Visitor and Educational Facility I was responsible for fund-raising, the construction of the buildings and the exhibition program and continue my involvement in the educational activities of the Observatory..

Recently, Cambridge University Press published the books: Children of the Stars and Hijos de las Estrellas, books which were written with the general public in mind.
