Chris Salter joined the Arecibo Observatory as a Senior Research Associate and Head of the Radio Astronomy Group on September 1st, 1992. He completed his doctoral research at Jodrell Bank in 1970, and has since spent time at the University of Bologna (1970 - 72), Dacorum District Council, Hemel Hempstead, England (1973 - 76, as Housing Research Officer), MPIfR, Bonn (1977 - 80), NRAO, Socorro (1980 - 81), TIFR, Bangalore, India (1981 - 1983), NRAO, Tucson (1983 - 1985), IRAM, Pico Veleta, Spain (1985 - 1987), Jodrell Bank (1987 - 1988), TIFR, Bangalore and Ooty (1988 - 90), and NRAO, Green Bank (1990 - 92). The topics of his current research are:-

  1. Continuum mapping of the Galactic Center at 84 GHz.
  2. A VLA polarization study of compact-steep spectrum sources.
  3. HI-absorption of the radiation from pulsars.
  4. The continuum emission from supernova remnants.
  5. Neutral-hydrogen contents of a sample of ultra-luminous IR galaxies.
  6. Clustering of radio galaxies seen through the galactic plane.
  7. The spatial distribution of electron-density fluctuations in the interstellar matter.
