What started
in 1996 as a intramural small tournament exclusively for Instituto Olímpico
de Taekwondo students, has grown to become one of the important Invitational
tournaments in Puerto Rico.
The "Mini-Olimpiadas
de Taekwondo" started in 1996, in the small town of Utuado. From that
day on, this event is presented every year alternating the venue every other
year between Barceloneta and Utuado.
More than 300
athletes of many ages and from many towns of the Island gather during the
month of August or September to be part of this exciting tournament. The "Mini-Olimpiadas
de TKD" are known for its neat organization and quality competition.
This is a "One
Day" event but it is carefully structured so everybody is done by 5:00
pm. To make this possible, Master Tony Acevedo and Master Ramon Rivera work
hard for several nights previous to the tournament date setting up pre-matches
and ring assignments.
The use of an
Electronic Scoreboard designed and built by a puertorican company "Advanced
Computing Partner"s", is a factor that contributes to run the event
in an effective way. This Scoreboard is property of "Instituto Olimpico
de TKD- Utuado" and has been updated to adapt to the new differential
scoring system approved by the WTF.
