Arecibo is joining 16 other telescopes around the world to form a 'global telescope' to celebrate the start of the International Year of Astronomy. The observations, coordinated from the Netherlands, will follow three quasars for a 24-hour period. Arecibo will join the observations on January 15 between 11 am and 1:15 pm and between 5 and 8 pm (Puerto Rican time). The observations can be followed in real time at 24_hours_of_e-VLBI. For more details, see the full press release (PDF). Information on activities in Puerto Rico during the International Year of Astronomy can be found at Astronomy2009pr.org . |
