Flaviane Venditti

Dr. Venditti started her scientific career as a Bachelor in Physics/Astronomy at the University of Sao Paulo, where she was part of the Polarimetry group working with observations at the National Laboratory for Astrophysics (LNA) in Minas Gerais, Brazil. Besides observations, she was also interested in celestial mechanics and space missions, which led her to pursue a Master's (2009) and Ph.D (2013) degree in Space Engineering at the National Institute for Space Research, Brazil, focused on Astrodynamics.
During her Ph.D, she worked with orbital maneuvers around irregularly shaped bodies, developing a method to model the gravitational field of asteroids with low computational effort using Arecibo's planetary radar data. She was a postdoctoral scientist for one year at the same institution, working with orbit perturbation, and in Montreal for 2.5 years working with dynamics of asteroid deflection at McGill University, Canada. She joined the Arecibo staff in May 2017.

Dr. Venditti is part of the planetary radar science group working primarily with radar observations of near–Earth objects (NEOs) and characterization to support planetary defense. Regarding radar observations, she has a special interest in astrometry and asteroid shape modeling. In addition, she has a background in orbital dynamics, also working with orbit perturbation and asteroid impact mitigation strategies.

Dr. Venditti current grant project was provided by NASA Grant #80NSSC19K0523, which was awarded to the University of Central Florida (UCF) for 2019–2024. She is a team member of NASA's DART mission investigation team (https://dart.jhuapl.edu/) and the CLASS Planetary Landing Team (https://sciences.ucf.edu/class/landing–team/).
Other projects Dr. Venditti is include study of dynamics of asteroid deflection using tethers, asteroid shape modeling, orbit perturbation around small bodies, as well as space debris radar detection and characterization.
