Terminology
  • L=0,L=1,L=-1
    • each of these are cw.. usually rcp
    • L=1  has  [0,120,240] deg  added to the dipoles on towers  1,3,5
    • L=-11 has [0,-120,-240] deg added to the phase of the dipoles on 1,3,5
  • dual chirp
    • has a positive and negative going chirp output simultaneously
    • the positive chirp is output on the tangentials
    • the negative chirp is output on the radials.
    • There is usually a 1Khz separation between the up and down chirps at the start.

Intro

    The hf campaign ran:

  • 09jun19 thru 14jun19 (hf started on 10jun19)
  • t1193 ran during the evenings after the hf was turned off,.

    The campaign used:

  • The 5 MHz dipoles, RCP and a few hours with 8 MHz.
  • The hf transmitters were controlled by the nrl timing generators.
  • the 430 xmiter  was used through the gregorian dome (the linefeed is no longer with us..)
    • the power was limited to about 600KW because we were operating with only 1 klystron.
    • a coded long pulse sequence was used for all hf experiments
    • 10ms ipp, 440 usec rf pulse, 2 usec baud.
    • During the night of 190609,1905610 during t1193, we ran 50 secs of clp followed by 10 seconds of topside. The following nights only had clp.
    • The start of the the 10ms ipp was synchronized to the hardware 1 second tick.
  • The hf tx always started on a 1 second tick, so the hf and 430 pulses were  synchronized
  • Data was recorded:
    • with the echotek backend [5.5,9.5] Mhz bands for entire campaign
    • the usrp backend. 25Mhz centered at 430Mhz was used for all experiments.
