Intro

    The hf campaign ran:

  • 01nov18  thru 09nov18
  • t2374 ran during some of the evenings after the hf transmitters were turned off
  • --> Note: Project t3274
    • the web page, movie names, disc areas are all labeled t2374..
    • The experiment number should have been t3274.

    The campaign used:

  • The 5 MHz dipoles, RCP and LCP for a short period
  • A few experiments were done with the 8Mhz dipoles.
  • The cycling of the  hf on,off was done with the keysight signal generators under program control
    • all experiments were synchronized to the hardware 1 second tick
    • The generators had a 2 sample delay from hardware tick to first state change.
    • This varied from 100 usec to 2 milliseconds (depending on clock used for the  experiment).
  • the 430 xmiter  was used through the gregorian dome (the linefeed is no longer with us..)
    • a coded long pulse sequence was used for all experiments
    • 10ms ipp, 440 usec rf pulse, 2 usec baud.
    • The start of the the 10ms ipp was synchronized to the hardware 1 second tick.
  • The hf and 430 pulses were then synchronized (.. ignoring path length differences).
  • Data was recorded:
    • with the echotek backend [5.5,9.5] Mhz bands for entire campaign
      • the echotek cpu occasionally failed, so some experiments have no echotek data
    • the usrp backend. 25Mhz centered at 430Mhz was used for all experiments.

The table of what we did has a summary of the experiments we did. Each has a link to a more detailed description.
Other information that is available:

  • az,za positions of telescope
  • hf  power during each exp
  • tx 430 power during each exp.
  • the amplitudes and phases (with time stamps) used to drive the 6 hf transmitters.
  • For dual beam observations.. gr -> usrp, ch -> echotek.

HF synthesizer drive values (top)

The hf synthesizers generate the amplitude and phase to drive each of the 6 hf transmitters.

Logs of hf synth values

siggen programing notes

We used up to 3 signal generators to generate the sine wave and associated patterns that drove the hf transmitter.  The siggen program was used to read in the desired pattern, load the signal generators, and then start the drive signal on a 1 second tick.
For this campaign, all hf transmissions were synchronize to the hardware 1 second tick. We also synchronized the ipp for the 430Tx transmitter to start on a hardware 1 second tick. Since we only used a 10ms ipp for the 430, i remained synchronized with the hardware 1 sec tick.

Some of the command files used for experiments could do:

chirp and chirp_cw, using external 1 sec or 10sec tick.

onoff chirp
